About
Me
My name is Claire Pauline Thompson, a dedicated writer from Southern Idaho. Although I have been writing throughout my life, my passion for it grew significantly while living in Portland, Oregon during the height of the pandemic in 2020. Confined in my apartment, I revisited my childhood writings to keep myself occupied, which reignited my love for storytelling and the beauty of the written word. Since then, I have devoted as much time as possible with school and my personal writing honing my craft and building a portfolio of fiction and creative nonfiction stories as well as a bit of poetry. My goal is to pursue a career that allows me to engage in my creative passions daily.
In addition to my personal writing, I am currently pursuing an associate’s degree in English Creative Writing at the College of Western Idaho and plan on working my way toward an MFA in the future. I also work in various jobs that I enjoy, and in my free time I indulge in reading, gardening, and spending time with my friends, family, and pets, both at home and around the Pacific Northwest. I draw inspiration for my writing from nature, sociopolitical issues, and major concepts like death and religion.
About
My
Work
While I enjoy exploring poetry and creative nonfiction, the majority of my work is fiction falling under the genres of contemporary fantasy and modern science fiction. I frequently explore themes of climate change, queer love, religious freedom, corruption, mortality, and death. Much of my work is inspired by personal experiences and struggles with identity, the constantly evolving world around us, and the tension between my personal beliefs and societal traditions and expectations.
While I primarily enjoy writing in both long and short form fiction, I also take pleasure in exploring other genres like children’s books, poetry, and creative essays that allow me to express my creativity in new ways. In these forms of writing, I enjoy challenging the same notions as my fiction writing, often seeking different ways to explore and discuss current sociopolitical issues and taboo topics that I find particular interest in as this exploration of these topics through different genres enables me to broaden my skillset and deepen my understanding of the people and the world around me.
